Easy recipes for kids- Ragi(Finger millet) halwa

This recipe is full of calcium and protein and contains a great amount of iron and other minerals..Why ?? coz its a halwa made with "Ragi" , commonly known as "Nachni" in Maharashtra and common name of Finger Millet in South India.It's not only good for children but for everyone and can double up as a healthy dessert too!!! As with my other recipes,I always try to bring in the health part by using more of healthy and nutritious food items.I almost always manage to trick my son by calling it a "chocolate pudding" !!

Indian Food Wisdom by Rujuta Diwekar - The importance of "tadka" in our food

I am about to start a series on sharing health and weight loss mantras from Rujuta Diwekar's video "Indian Food Wisdom" . I am really quite fond of her ideas since she doesn't stress on fad diets and talks on the importance of traditional food and their benefits and why we don't need to follow senseless diets to lose weight.We can stick to our old rich Indian food , eat merrily and still lose it all by eating it the right way !!

                                    The importance of "tadka" in our food

The tadka that we apply to our food doesn't only carry calories,but it also has loads of nutrients and therapeutic values in it e.g. turmeric powder,ghee,oil,sesame seeds,coconut seasonings,etc.Unless you use it,you wont be able to absorb the vitamins and minerals and the heap of benefits that come with it.In other words,consuming vegetables alone without the tadka has no value.And of course,undoubtedly, it adds heavily to the taste.So what happens then?
a.You enjoy eating the food
b.Since your appetite is satisfied,you wont get cravings for high calorie food post the meal and that's where you will lose it healthily.

Most importantly,it helps you get "pranic" value .

Prana – that most people are unaware of – is vital energy.It is extremely important to uplift our senses,our joints and scalps healthy,our moods ,makes us light and lively and helps us stay healthy and energetic and keep us looking young and thin.So the mantra here is "to count prana and not calories."

My Wordpress learning series -Validating submitting and emailing a contact form using jquery and PHP

For many of you who use “jquery.validate.js” to validate your forms, you may be keen for a solution that not only submits the form and emails the content but also displays a ‘thank you’ message after successful submission and all within the same handler .I am focussing on the same handler as you will find 100’s of solutions to submit it using another function but not within the same validate function.

So, here’s a full proof resolution for you after putting in hours of hard work. Since I use wordpress for most of my projects, I'd like to put forth a solution that would work along with your wordpress themes as well.

I am not using any contact form wordpress plugins here, but simply combining the power of PHP and jquery to accomplish the desired output. I’m a huge advocate of building things from scratch rather than use WP plugins mainly because you really need to hack the core to get it working as per your need. So let’s begin the journey and get going..

Easy way to add rich editing options to your bbpress forums with Bbpress post toolbar

In one of my recent projects where I am using “bbpress” to create forums, I wanted to bring about a rich editing experience for the end user. The default “bbpress” forum template is pretty simple (displayed below) with just about very basic editing features. Users who are fluent with HTML coding could benefit from some HTML tags, but you wouldn’t want to target your site for tech savvy users only. Hence arrives the need to include a toolbar where users can easily embed images, video, smileys and rich formatting options while posting in forums.

My Wordpress learning series: Adding and saving values from a drop down list using theme my login plugin

This article marks the beginning of my experience of diving into the massive world of “wordpress” that could help a lot of newbie and struggling wordpress developers.

After struggling for days together to achieve the functionality to add extra fields to a user profile form using “theme my login”, and having looked up 1000’s of articles from Google, I could finaaly gather the following means to be able to add and save values from a dropdown list into the wordpress database.

You will find a number of articles on “How to add extra “text” type fields but none mentions “How to add fields from a drop down list and save them”(In case you do find them, please drop in a link in “comments” below).
So, here I am, unleashing my step-by-step experience of adding and saving values from a dropdown list using “theme my login” plugin (I have used Steven Ray’s example of auto populating country list in the dropdown)

How to design and email a simple contact form using PHP

This post goes to out those who might be going through a tough time emailing a simple contact form using PHP .The example below uses a mix of jquery and PHP..

For quite sometime,I have been struggling with the same issue..After googling through a couple of good articles,I have finally managed to summarize the whole process as highlighted below.

I have also used "jquery" here coz I wanted to trap the output from the processing php and include some meaningful text for the end user in "<div id="created"></div>" after the form has been submitted

To summarize, the 3 objectives achieved in the example below are as follows:
1.HTML markup for the "contact form"
2. Create the processing "PHP" to submit and email the form
3.Add the "jquery" part

Being a mother is one of the most cherished feelings of a lifetime. Nine months of carrying a tiny soul in the womb, of sleepless nights, of all the countless efforts, of the terrible mood swings and of an impatient waiting coming to an end when the baby cries for the first time after entering this beautiful world. This is the moment of truth every mother looks forward to.
Most likely, every pregnant mother daydreams: of the delivery procedure, of the care they need to shower on the child to ensure his comfort all the time.
The reality can be quite different from what a mother might have anticipated. A delivery (normal or c-section) can leave you physically and mentally exhausted. All the hunky dory, enchanting dreams will fade away. Lots of women experience postpartum depression. You will also feel stressed out most of the time. Is that unusual? No, Not at all!!
These symptoms are natural as they occur due to the numerous changes in the body. Most mothers feel guilty if they can’t bond with the baby immediately but they need not be. Sooner or later they will. Remember that the body needs a lot of rest this time and you should take all the time to recuperate at first. Only then will you be able to take care of your baby completely.
